Tokitsukaze Ichimon holds joint keiko session

The Tokitsukaze Ichimon held their joint keiko session yesterday at the Isenoumi-beya, and reports are of a quite spirited practice. Highlighting the session was M1 Kakuryu who scored seven straight wins at one point over Toyonoshima and Homasho with a powerful oshi attack. Afterwards, the Mongolian upstart commented, "If I can do my brand of sumo, I think I'll reach [the sanyaku]." Isenoumi-oyakata also commented on Kakuryu's performance saying the he'd become a lot stronger rikishi.

On the flip side, Juryo newcomer, Tosayutaka (pictured at right), had a rough session going only 3-12. Tosayutaka, who set a record last basho for consecutive wins for a non-sekitori, commented, "I just couldn't get my sumo going out there." The rookie was overpowered in the majority of his bouts, but it wasn't all negative for the newcomer, however, as he was presented with his first-ever kesho mawashi from the Settsu Warehouse company in Osaka. Embroidered on the apron is a picture of a gorilla. When asked what a gorilla had to do with anything, Tosayutaka joked, "I guess it's because I look like one. Now I'll have to go to the zoo and do some research on them." We're still laughing.
